Do you ever feel overwhelmed by your never-ending to-do list? Are you unsure of where to start in order to become more productive? If so, I’ve got you. Today I’d like to introduce you to the GPS productivity system, a simple yet effective method that will help you manage your days efficiently and stay on top of your goals.

Step 1: Setting Goals

The first step in the GPS system is setting goals. To begin, create a life plan that encompasses your big-picture aspirations. Consider how you want to be remembered and what you want to be known for. From there, cast your vision by setting long-term goals for ten years, five years, and one to two years. These long-term goals will serve as a reference point for your shorter-term goals. To make your goals more manageable, create 90-day or quarterly goals. These shorter-term goals should align with your vision, life plan, and the priorities of the season you’re in.

Step 2: Planning

The next step in the GPS system is planning. Break your planning down into monthly, weekly, and daily plans. Start with a monthly reset, reviewing and refining the systems you have in place. Create a monthly plan by filling out a calendar with appointments, events, and milestones related to your 90-day or quarterly goals. For weekly plans, map out a meal plan and list any activities or events. Categorize your to-do list for the week, separating business-related tasks from home and family-related tasks. This categorization helps you stay focused. Finally, create a daily plan, noting meals, appointments, and a shorter categorized to-do list. You can even use time blocking to add structure to your day.

Step 3: Systems

The last step in the GPS system is implementing systems. Start with routines and habits. Establishing routines reduces decision fatigue and allows tasks to become automatic. Next, consider using a time-blocking system. This simple method involves assigning one or two tasks to each hour of your day, including meals and appointments. It provides an overview and helps you feel more organized. Finally, prioritize consistency. Reduce distractions and follow your planning consistently. By consistently implementing the GPS system, you’ll stay on top of your goals and make progress in all areas of life.
