Those decluttering tasks have been sitting on your to-do list for the longest time and you’re still not even close to tackling them.

Sound familiar?

What’s stopping you from reaching those goals?

Many readers have shared with me what is holding them back and I’ve been able to identify 5 main trends – at least one or two most likely applies to you too.

So let’s take a look at 5 reasons you haven’t reached your decluttering goals.

These are the five most common things that hold people back from reaching their decluttering goals! Is one of them holding you back?

You are overwhelmed

I’m no stranger to feeling overwhelmed. I’ll bet you aren’t either. For me, a busy workweek, uncertain plans, and keeping up with managing our home can end up with me being exhausted and anxious. Not to mention any other home projects, social plans, and random things that come up and go wrong.

Whether it’s a busy schedule, to-do list, or even just being overwhelmed with thoughts, overwhelm is the number one thing I see holding us back from decluttering.

You aren’t motivated

Do you ever find yourself lacking motivation?

Do you feel like you just don’t have the energy or mentality to start something?

I think we’ve all been there at times. I know I have.

Lack of motivation is the second reason you may not be reaching your decluttering goals. You just can’t convince yourself to get started. And you’re not alone in that!

You don’t have the time

Another struggle I hear often is finding the time to declutter. And I get it, our lives are busy.

We’ve got packed schedules, endless to-do’s, and more filling our lives. When are we supposed to fit in decluttering?

Lack of time is the third reason you may not be reaching your goals.

You can’t let go of sentimental items

So how do we go about Decluttering those items that mean something to us or a loved one? This can be difficult because we tend to attach memories to the items.

This is one of the hardest obstacles – getting rid of something that means something to you or one you love. There are questions to ask yourself and ways to get through this though, and not all of them involve getting rid of the sentimental items.

Sentiment is the fourth obstacle we face in decluttering.

You don’t know where to start

Finally, the fifth obstacle I hear all the time is, “I don’t know where to start!”

Do you start with the sentimental stuff? The kitchen? Closets? So much needs to be done that you don’t know where to begin and it’s paralyzing.

So you don’t start at all. Everything is still sitting there, waiting for you to go through it.

So how do you get past these?

Well, I’ve seen these struggles over and over again so I decided to put together an eBook for you called Get Started DeCluttering. I will walk you through how to overcome each of these obstacles so you can finally reach your decluttering goals.

It includes checklists and worksheets to help you put the principles into practice so you can finally reach your decluttering goals.
