Has your home ever felt totally chaotic? Well, I have been there and today I’m sharing with you a plan on how to get started organizing your home so it feels a little more peaceful and less chaotic.

If your home feels chaotic, here's a plan to help you get started organizing your home so it feels like a haven.

Step 1: Create Your Vision for Your Organized Home

So let’s dive into that plan to overcome that chaotic home. First of all, I want you to think of a vision of what you want your home to look like and feel like, and write that down. Get pretty detailed of what you want the atmosphere to be, because if we don’t know where we’re going, it’s a little hard to make plans.

Start by thinking of some words you’d like to describe your home. For example, I like “Clean, Simple, Cozy.” Then list the rooms in your home and get more specific. Another example could be “Living Room: toys cleared out into kids’ bedrooms, a comfortable spot to gather as a family.” Deciding the end result you are aiming for is the best way to get started organizing your home (and life.)

Step 2: Make a Plan to Start Organizing

Step two is to make a plan. Start listing out just little baby steps that you can take to get you closer to that vision of your home. And you don’t have to plan out the whole thing – just think of what areas you want to start with and what’s going to make the biggest impact.

Start with those and make an action plan of little baby steps that you can do anytime you have five to 10 minutes. That way you will start seeing progress – because those baby steps do add up quickly.

Step 3: Simplify Your Home and Life

Number three is to simplify. And a lot of times this is going to be either your stuff or your schedule. So take some time to think about what needs to be simplified around your home. Maybe do a decluttering spree. Here’s a decluttering checklist and plan to help with this simplifying step.

Also look at your schedule and what you need to say “No” to, in order to clear your schedule as well, because that a lot of times can add to the chaos.

Step 4: Systemize your Household

And finally, number four is to think about your systems. What kind of systems can you create to help your life run more smoothly? You can create systems for things like meal planning and prep, your financial and bill payment system, and your command center where your family can stay on the same page.

And there are just so many other little areas of your life and your home that you can set up these routines, habits and systems that are going to make managing it so much easier.

So that is my quick four-step game plan to get started organizing your home.

  1. Create your vision and write it down.
  2. Make a plan with little baby steps that you can do any time you have a chance to implement.
  3. Think of areas that you can simplify.
  4. Determine where you can create systems to make your life easier.

What is your vision for your home and what steps do you need to take to help you get there? I can’t wait to hear it. Please leave me a comment and let me know.
