Have a Money-Free Weekend

I love the idea of a “Money-Free Weekend” from The Simple Dollar. I highly recommend reading about it and challenging yourself to try it out. Wondering what in the world you would do all weekend? Then read their list on 100 Things To Do During a Money-Free Weekend.

Make-Ahead Freezer Meals

A great way to plan ahead and save money is to do some freezer cooking. This is especially helpful on those busy days that you’re too exhausted to figure out dinner. I’ve posted several freezer meal ideas here including: Broccoli Chicken Rice CasseroleFreezer Burritos,  and Crock Pot Chicken.

Get Grilling

Get ready to fire up the grill! Cooking inside on the stove or in the oven can create a lot of excess heat. With the extra heat in the house, you can bet your air conditioner will be running in order to cool your house back down. So save a little on your energy bill by cooking outside a few times a week.

Write Out Your Goals

It’s a great idea to have in writing a clear view of your financial goals. How much do you want to have in savings? Do you have a debt that needs paid off? Is there a large item you want to save for, such as paying cash for a new car or a down payment on a new home? Break it down by month and week so that you can see the progress being made. It’s good to do this for smaller goals too!

Teach Your Kids to Manage Money Wisely

Teach your children to manage money wisely, as it will serve them well for the rest of their lives. This post on Money Saving Mom has some great suggestions for doing just that.

Insulate Your Attic

Hot air rises, and if your attic isn’t insulated properly, so will your heating bills! Make sure your attic has some insulation in order to keep the warm air in and the energy bill affordable.

Go Meatless once a week

With prices of meat so high, skipping the meat once or twice a week can save you some grocery money. There are lots of dinner dishes you can fix for your family that don’t include meat. Some ideas include pasta, vegetable casseroles, etc.

I hope these ideas have inspired you to get creative in order to save money at home and better your finances.
