“I’m a famous painter!” my 5-year-old shouted as he crafted his masterpiece with a palette of washable kids paint.
“A true art-eest!” chimed my 9-year-old son, encouraging his brother.
I about burst out laughing at their antics. But these fun quotes are some of the moments I cherish most. My kindergartner and I had just finished reading a little about a famous painter (Vermeer in case you’re wondering) and talked about the use of color and light in Girl with a Pearl Earring. This prompted him to want to paint (Which I knew was coming. This kid loves to create.)
I’m so glad he likes to create… even when it gets messy. Because in today’s world there’s a lot more consuming than creating. I want to encourage my kids to think, use their imaginations, and continue to create.
So that leads me to… what am I creating? Am I consuming too much? (Probably.) So here’s what I’m pondering…

How Can I Create More?
These are a few simple ideas I came up with:
- Spend less time scrolling.
- Embrace my hobbies – baking, gardening, etc.
- Create a calm home environment
- Move through the days more slowly and intentionally
How Can I Consume Less?
Here’s a start:
- Unsubscribe and unfollow from what’s not serving me in this season
- Set screen time boundaries
- Read more actual books instead of stuff online (slower, more intentional consumption)
There are so many things fighting for attention. So this is where I’m starting to ensure that my attention stays where it should.
Will you join me? Let me know what you’re going to implement first.
P.S. – One of my favorite ways to stay intentional about my focus is going through my Monthly Reset Formula every month. Now is the perfect time to give it a try! Get all the details and grab the tools for yourself here.
