I think at some level everyone craves simplicity.
Even at 9 years old I was enthralled by the simple life of the pioneers settling in the west. So much, that my poor little brother was forced to play “pioneers” outside on many occasions. I’d stay in the playhouse and “cook” while he was sent out to gather firewood or something.. good times.
Anyway, a life of simplicity is much hard to come by these days. Mostly because of the invention of new technologies. Don’t get me wrong.. I think technology is great. But at the same time, even though it was designed to make our lives easier, technology can actually make our lives more complicated.
So how can we make our blogging lives a little more simple?
I think there are a few ways…
Don’t try to do it all
You don’t have to be on all the social media channels! Pick the couple that you and your audience love the most and focus on doing those well.
I always hear how twitter is great for blogging and business, but I just really can’t get the hang of it. I occasionally get on there and tweet out some blog posts, but it’s not where my focus is.
Facebook and Pinterest on the other hand? Those I love and I’m active on those channels.
Stay Organized
Without at least a little bit of organization, blogging can quickly get overwhelming. But there are some simple ways that I like to keep things organized and orderly.
I go more in-depth on how I organize in these posts:
Measure results
Taking a little bit of time for analysis can help you save time and simplify in the long run. Checking your traffic sources is a good way to see what areas you should focus on.
Another way to do this is to survey your audience. You can ask them what topics they like the most, their favorite social media platforms, and more.
Don’t worry about what others are doing
You’ll be much happier if you stay true to yourself and what you like to write about. It can be so tempting to follow all the things the “expert” bloggers are saying. While it’s good to get ideas and try new strategies every so often, I think the most important thing you can do is to just be you.
So what do YOU enjoy writing about?
What tasks energize you instead of drain you?
Focus on those!
You can add in other things down the road as you see fit, but most of the time you’ll find that it’s not necessary.
We could all use a little more simplicity in our lives, and these are just a few ways you can simplify your blogging. There is enough “noise” around us as it is, every way that we can simplify things a little will help us slow down and enjoy the “little” things more.
How do you simplify blogging life?

Your title caught me right away! Thanks for these simple tips!
Thanks for visiting!
Great points! It’s so important to just be yourself and not worry about competing with every other blog out there. I just focus on 2 social media outlets, too. I’ve thought about adding in a 3rd, but it would be so difficult to manage with everything else!

Yeah it’s crazy how much time one or two social media channels takes up! Thanks so much for stopping by! =)
Very refreshing! I always feel a bit guilty that I’m not on Twitter or Instagram (or Periscope now). But, it really helps me to be able to focus on just a couple of social media platforms. (Also, I totally did the whole pioneer play, too! I pretty much was Laura Ingalls.)
Loved this. Measuring your results and not worrying what others are doing is absolutely key. I recently got off Facebook and stopped looking around what anyone else is doing. I’ve freed up SO much time. I’m really focusing now and measuring results and investing on what works. It’s taken my blog to the next level, I have to say! I’m not even two years blogging yet and I’m at a million pageviews. It’s insane! Can’t wait to see how far I go next year. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, Sarah, I’m so glad you liked the post. That’s so awesome how you’ve been able to measure results and see some amazing growth! I look forward to seeing where next year takes you! 🙂
