My latest kitchen venture was rice krispy treats! (Or marshmallow treats, or whatever you want to call them.) I had never made them before, so I was anxious to see how they would turn out. They are delicious!
Here is the recipe I followed:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 4 cups of miniature marshmallows
- 5 cups of crisp rice cereal
A couple quick notes on the ingredients: You can buy a big box of crisp rice cereal at Aldi for pretty cheap. Out of one box I have gotten 2 batches of homemade granola bars, these treats, and there is still some left! Also, I didn’t have quite 4 cups of mini marshmallows, but I had some larger ones that I tore in half. It worked out just fine. Ok, on to the directions…
- Melt butter/margarine in large sauce pan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until melted and well-blended. Cook 2 minutes longer, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
- Add cereal. Stir until well coated.
- Using a buttered spatula or waxed paper, press mixture evenly and firmly in buttered 13×9 in. pan. Cut into 2×2 in. squares when cool. (Confession: I tried to use the spatula to spread the mixture into the pan, but I totally ended up using my hands. They were clean!)
And there you have it. A great treat with a few cheap ingredients that is easy to make!
