So it’s a new year – and it’s going to be YOUR year. The year you finally reach those goals, finish the projects you’ve been putting off, and start truly living the life you’ve been envisioning for you and your family.

That where I’m at as the new year is upon us.. Can you relate?

At the same time, it’s kind of daunting to be starting a new year when you have such high expectations for it. So today let’s talk about 3 simple ways that we can start the year strong.

Here are the 3 ways I'm preparing to start my year with intention and accomplish big goals! Learn how you can also start your year strong.

Take time to reflect on the past year

First, we need to take a look back at the past year – what went well? What didn’t go so well? And what do we want to change in the new year?

Getting clear on these questions will allow us to move forward knowing the changes we need to make.

It’s also good to look back at your favorite memories of the past year and maybe even write them down.

Focus on the small first steps towards your goals

So we have this big, audacious goal for the year. It’s scary big. And we have this big plan laid out on how to reach it… but I don’t want you to focus on that.

I want you to focus on the ONE next step you need to take right now in order to make that goal a reality.

As much as I love planning (and I seriously love planning), this is a tweak I’m making this year. I have a plan for the year, but I’m putting more focus on the next step I need to take. This puts the focus more on implementation than planning. And I get more done that way!

Live in the present

Finally, as we have these big plans laid out for the year, let’s start living more in the moment. Enjoying the ride, making memories as we go along.

Because, to quote David Cassida, “The purpose of a goal isn’t to hit the goal. The real purpose is to develop yourself into the type of person who can achieve your goals regardless of whether or not you hit that particular goal. It is who you become by giving it everything you have until the last moment that matters most.”

So remember to enjoy the moment as you go through this year chasing your goals. Because all we ever really have is TODAY.

To recap, the ways I’m preparing to start the year strong is to reflect on the past year, focus on the one next step, and live in the moment. By doing these things we are setting ourselves up for the best year yet!
