Ingredients:
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 Tbs sugar
- 1 Tbs active dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup quick cooking oats
- 2 1/2 Tbs butter, softened
Directions:
Mix water and sugar until dissolved. Next, add yeast and mix until dissolved. Set aside for 10 minutes. When you come back, there should be bubbles on top.
Add flour, oats and salt. Slice up the butter into small pieces and add it in.
Knead ingredients for about 10 minutes. The dough should be smooth and slightly elastic.
Shape the dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl. Cover and set in a warm place to rise for an hour.
Knead the dough again for a couple minutes. Cut the dough into equal pieces. Shape each piece into an oval and place in a greased loaf pan. Place both pans in a warm place to rise for another hour, this time uncovered.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Bake the loaves for 35-40 minutes or until they are a nice golden brown.
Let cool, slice, and enjoy!

My hubby loves fresh baked bread! I don’t know why I don’t make it more often. I love the way it makes the house smell! Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing it at the Shady Porch! Blessings, D
This bread smells amazing and is perfect for sandwiches! Thanks for stopping by!
When do you add the oats?
You add it in at the same time as the flour. Thanks!
