I found this great recipe for homemade bagels at Blissful and Domestic and tweaked it just a bit in order to add some yummy mix-ins!
I made 4 different kinds of bagels: chocolate chip, cranberry, cinnamon sugar, and plain salted.
These were very popular with my family, they didn’t last long!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbl brown sugar
- 4 cups of white flour
- 2 1/4 tsp of dry yeast
Directions:
– Place all the ingredients in the bread machine and set to dough cycle.
– When the dough is done, lightly dust work surface with flour. Shape dough into a 12-inch long cylinder. Cut into pieces.
– Mix your add-ins with each piece of dough and shape into ropes. Make each rope into a circle with slightly overlapping ends.
– Put bagels on a baking sheet, cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
-Brush bagels with egg wash and bake for 15 minutes. Turn bagels over and bake for another 5-10 minutes or until golden brown.
– Let cool, then enjoy!
Delicious!

Do you think these would work with Asiago cheese? I have the cheese but haven’t committed yet……saw a recipe on King Arthur Flour but they always have ingredients that are unique to their catalog….
Cheese sounds good too! That’s another one I want to try as well.
Wow! I’m a big fan of bagels and of baking and of my bread machine – these look fantastic! Thanks for sharing. I’ve pinned it and can’t wait to try.
