Are familiar with the sick feeling in your stomach when you throw away food, and not because it’s rotten but because it went to waste? I do. It’s frustrating. That’s why I love Carrie Isaac’s new book, From Garbage to Gourmet.
Not only does this book teach you how to use parts of food you usually throw away (carrot peels, potato peels, etc.) but also how to properly store and freeze foods to make them last longer and lots of recipes to use up those spare food bits.
And it’s all laid out beautifully in a colorful magazine-style format. I always have so much more fun reading pretty books, and this is one of them.
The book is divided into four sections: produce, meat, eggs and dairy, and pantry items. You’ll learn about fruits and vegetables, herbs, spices, bacon, chicken, beef, milk, yogurt, sour cream, buttermilk, bread, canned fruit, and coffee, just to name some of them. The book also includes some helpful addendums at the end, plus all of the recipes in a printable format.
Overall, I think this book is a great investment if you want to stop throwing out so much food in your home. It is full of resources and great advice that will help you achieve your goals of saving money and reducing food waste.

It is sickening, isn’t it? My family hates leftovers, so the one thing I’ve found to do to help with not throwing away food: When we have leftover veggies, I drain the juice out and place them in a container in the freezer. Then I use them when I make homemade soups or beef stew. I’m your newest follower via GFC . Please stop by and check out my blog. I’m still new, but trying to get my name out there.
