Spring is here, so it’s time to start thinking about Spring cleaning. This year, I started out with washing my pillows. This is what I learned from Clean Your Space:
- Wash only 1-2 pillows at a time
- Add baking soda to the washer if your pillows smell
- Add vinegar to the washer if your pillows seem musty or mildew-y
- Put tennis balls in socks to go in the dryer with the pillows. This will help pound out the excess moisture.
What are your best tips for washing pillows?
This is a great reminder and tip for spring cleaning. Although I’m diligent about washing my bedding every week, my pillows definitely need to be cleaned! Thanks for sharing. Now I just need to get some tennis balls..
You really should wash and dry an old pillow that you do not intend to keep and then cut it open. You will see that they never get dry inside. It is quite surprising. A wet pillow is a breading ground for dust mites.
Yesterday on Rachael Ray they discussed cleaning pillows. They included all your points, with one more: you know it’s time to replace your pillow when you fold it in half and it stays folded.
Good to know, thanks Teresa!
I always wash two pillows at the same time trying to balance the washing machine so they won’t be thrown around as much.
I am suffering from allergy thus I need to washing pillows every two weeks. It is really a big challenge for me. Thanks for your tips! Really helpful.
