One Saturday I went to breakfast with my mom, aunt, and brother at the best bakery/restaurant in town. And I’m not just biased because my brother is a baker there! 😉
On the menu that morning there was Strawberry Baked French Toast. It was amazing. Wonderfully rich and sweet, topped with strawberries and an incredible homemade whipped cream that is made fresh every morning. It was so good that I was inspired to make my own. Except I didn’t have strawberries. However, I had a nice stash of apples, so apple pie french toast it was!
Note: This recipe is for an 8×8 pan. It can be doubled and baked in a 9×13 pan.
Ingredients:
- half a loaf of bread
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 apples, chopped
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
Directions:
Cut apples and stick in the oven for awhile to soften.
Meanwhile, mix eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a medium sized bowl.
Add in the bread, sliced into fourths, and mix to coat.
Mix bread mixture & apples together in baking dish and top with cinnamon and brown sugar.
Bake at 375 for 45 minutes or until bread is baked through and not soggy!
Enjoy!
