Dollar stores have a huge range of merchandise to buy. Though it’s tempting to fill your cart at such bargain prices, some dollar store purchases are wise and some are not. Here are five things that are a great deal.
Holiday supplies and decorations: You can find some great deals on simple holiday décor around each holiday. They usually have a wide selection to choose from. It won’t be top quality, but you can easily have your home looking festive for each holiday without spending a lot.
Party supplies and decorations: There’s no need to go to an expensive party supply store to find your party necessities. Dollar stores usually have all the basics, such as: table cloths, plates, napkins, party favors, gift bags, wrapping paper, and more.
Picture frames: You can usually find a good selection of pictures frames for a dollar. There’s no need to spend five dollars or more! Just take a good look at the frame before you buy it and make sure there aren’t any cracks in the glass or frame.
Greeting cards: Most greeting cards hover around the five dollar price point. However, at the dollar store you can find them for a dollar, and more oftentimes, two for a dollar. Brand names on greeting cards don’t matter, especially if it includes a heartfelt note. Or, even better, see my post on making your own Cute & Simple Homemade Cards!
Coloring books: Keep the children in your life entertained for hours with coloring books from the dollar store. There is usually a wide selection to choose from, including ones with familiar characters.
These are just five things are are smart buys at dollar stores. Remember to think about the item before it goes into your cart to make sure you really are getting a bargain!
What do you usually buy at the dollar store and what would you add to the list? I’d love to know, just leave your reply in the comments!
Love your ideas Laura! Here’s another idea:
When we went on road trips with our kids I would buy them each a couple of toys at the dollar store for every day we were on the road, wrap them in gift wrap and make it a fun surprise for times when they were getting antsy and we couldn’t stop right away. They loved it! (Some days we had to give them a gift to get them in the car for the day.) By getting them different kinds of toys, creative kits, etc it fit all moods.
That’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing, Teresa!
I make my own wipes also. Use an electric knife to cut the paper towels. Works great!
