Life happens.

Plans get off track. And we’re left wondering where to start to get things going again. It happens to all of us, but have you ever wished you had a game plan for getting back on track? Here’s my personal plan of how I get going again after life throws a curveball.

3 Keys to Getting Back on Track

Start Now

Don’t put off getting back on track until next week, or even tomorrow. Start right now. The longer you procrastinate, the further behind you are getting. Take just one small step to get things back in order – make a list, do some prep, or another small action to get started.

Start Slow

I wouldn’t recommend jumping back in full force, particularly if you’ve been off track for awhile. For example, if you’ve been off your exercise routine for several weeks, you probably wouldn’t want to start at the same intensity that you left off. Take a couple steps back and work back up from there.

Be Nice to Yourself

Stay positive! Being overrun with guilt will not get you closer to your goal. Be nice to yourself will prove to be more motivating than anything else.

Right now my goal is to work on our eating habits. I’ve been trying to add more and more fruits, veggies, whole grains, and other healthy options into our diets and slowly replace some of the not-so-great staples.

I’m taking baby steps, and still splurging once in awhile (like the pizza we had for dinner last week). In fact, in things like eating healthy sometimes splurges are necessary – it’s much easier to stay on track when you don’t feel deprived.

So these are the simple tips I’m using to get back on track with my goals and habits when things go a little awry. These 3 things make it so easy to get started again and continue towards goals.
