Here is a great basic bread recipe for the bread machine. It doesn’t have a strong flavor, but a nice hint of apple and cinnamon. (source: Taste of Home)
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup of warm water
- 1/2 cup of warm applesauce
- 2 Tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon of canola oil
- 1-1/2 teaspoons of apple pie spice (I just used cinnamon)
- 3/4 teaspoon of salt
- 3 cups of bread flour (I only had all-purpose and that worked fine)
- 1/3 cup of quick-cooking oats
- 2 Tablespoons of nonfat dry milk powder (I didn’t have any and just omitted this)
- 2-1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast (1 packet)
Directions:
In the bread machine pan, place all ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select basic bread setting. Choose crust color and loaf size, if you have those options. I picked a light crust for mine.
Check dough after 5 minutes of mixing. Add 1 to 3 tablespoons of water or flour if needed. (I ended up added maybe 1/2 tablespoon of water.) Bake according to bread machine directions. Mine took 3 hours to mix, rise, & bake in the machine. It turned out nicely!
Enjoy!
That sounds like a delicious bread – pinned this recipe for the next time I get the urge to bake 🙂
