Are you looking for some ways to encourage your husband? I think encouraging one another is an essential component of a happy marriage.. my husband is my biggest supporter and cheerleader and it means so much to me. Here are some ways that I try to encourage him:

5 Ways to Encourage Your Husband

Write

Leaving little notes around the house for your man is a simple little way to offer some kind words of appreciation and encouragement.

Every so often I like to leave a post it note where he will find it. The note doesn’t necessarily have to say much. A simple “I love you!” or “You’re the best!” or “Thanks for all you do” can do wonders for encouraging your husband and making  him smile.

Speak

It’s important to speak words in kindness and love. I don’t want to nag my husband. If I need him to do something I try to say something like “Hey honey, it would really help me out if you could take the trash out tonight” or “I’d appreciate it if you could vacuum on your day off tomorrow.” Not that it always comes out in such a kind way. I’m far from perfect.

Listen

Take the time to give your man your undivided attention. Listen to how his day went, what he’s feeling, his dreams for the future, and anything else he has to say. I think it’s important for relationships to have the kind of communication where each person feel heard.

Laugh

Have FUN together! Marriage is supposed to be fun, right? My husband can having me laughing so hard my face hurts. And sometimes I can even get him laughing 🙂

Having fun can be the simplest of things… bringing up an inside joke, a funny observation, and for us we have a lot of fun together while playing with our dogs (Riley, our 2 year old Shepherd mix, can be very entertaining chasing her toys around the house!)

Another fun idea is to cuddle up on the couch and watch some funny videos on YouTube.

Love

Say “I love you.” A lot. I’m sure you know your spouse loves you, but hearing the words never gets old. It’s always a wonderful reminder.

Another idea to show how much you love them is to do small acts of kindness. Take time to do the little things that you know mean a lot to them. Maybe take care of a chore they hate, take the time to make them their favorite meal, and so on.

These are just a few ways to encourage one another. The key is finding what works best for the two of you. Take the time to do the things that makes your spouse feel the most encouraged and you’ll begin to see your bond strengthened.

If you’re looking for more ways to strengthen your marriage, I’m really enjoying reading A Wife After God’s Own Heart by Elizabeth George. Another great book on marriage is The 30 Day Marriage Challenge by Becky Moseley.
