If you’re wanting to live a happier, more balanced life in 2015, then this book is for you. In “Living Well Spending Less 12 Secrets of the Good Life” by Ruth Soukup, author of the popular blog titled Living Well Spending Less, Ruth discusses ways that 12 areas of life can be more balanced and fulfilling.
The book covers several topics that include Contentment, Financial Freedom, Simplifying Life, Money-Saving Ideas, and so much more. Here are just some of the reasons why I think this book should be at the top of your reading list for this year.
You’ll Learn about True Contentment
“A life of true contentment is one we have to work for, and one we have to actively choose. It means taking the time to identify our priorities and to know what truly matters in life.” (location 397)
I couldn’t agree more! We have to make the choice to happy where we are at and to “Bloom where we are planted.” That doesn’t mean not striving to reach higher goals – it simply means you don’t waste time wishing you were somewhere else when you can be enjoying what you DO have right now.
You’ll Learn Awesome Home Management Tips
Ruth has some wonderful advice on keeping a clean, clutter-free home. She shares her cleaning schedule along with other great tips.
You’ll Learn about Time-Management, Goals, and Self-Discipline
“Our life is only as good as our goals, but self-discipline is the key to achieving them.” (location 821)
“Our habits will ultimately determine what we get done. Make them count.” (location 884)
Goals and Time Management are topics that I love. This girl thrives on productivity, so I really enjoyed reading Ruth’s advice on getting things done.
You’ll Learn how to Simplify
“Less stuff equals more joy.” (location 1025)
“The simple fact is that if you truly want to live clutter free, you must stop buying more stuff.” (location 1066)
I think we could all use some help in this area. Ruth’s advice really hit home on simplifying life. Her words of wisdom spoke to me and reinforced my goal for simplifying and decluttering my own life and home.
You’ll Learn about Financial Freedom
“Financial freedom and financial peace go hand in hand, but while one comes from hard work and discipline, the other can only come from above. We need both to succeed.” (location 1335)
“Making your money work for you instead of against you is quite possibly the most empowering thing you will ever do.” (location 1447)
In one section of the book Ruth shares truths on getting your finances in shape. She covers things from the true meaning of financial freedom and peace, to practical ideas on saving money on groceries.
I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I can honestly say I will definitely be reading it again and recommending it to many people. I think it is a wonderful overall guide to finding contentment and living a full, happy life with a focus on what matters most.
