We have all things in our lives that contribute to our success…. And also things that are detrimental to it. Today I’m sharing things that may be holding you back from being more productive and profitable in your home and business.
Social Media Scrolling
Let’s dive into the first habit that could be holding you back. It is scrolling, that probably doesn’t come as a big surprise we all have some form of smartphone addiction.
It’s easy to get sucked into social media. In fact, it’s designed to keep us there. There are studies that show how addictive it is, but there are ways we can reign in the habit of scrolling.
I have a couple of ideas for you. One is to set timers on your phone. Usually there is already an app installed for tracking that, or you can find one that will alert or only allow you a certain amount of time on an app each day.
You can also set focus hours, between the hours of 8:00 and 4:00 PM, your phone doesn’t allow access to the apps of your choosing. I use both of these tools to keep me off social media when I need to be focus on other things.
Not Planning Out Your Days
The second thing that could be holding you back is something that you’re not doing and that’s planning. Not having an effective plan can decrease your productivity. You need a combination of both the big picture and the small actions that are going to get you there.
I like to break my planning down into a long-term vision. Like, what I am working towards at the end of this year, two years, five, even ten, to get a vision of what I’m trying to accomplish in life and where I’m going.
Then I make more concrete goals, I think in quarters. I set quarterly and monthly goals, then weekly milestones that I can easily break down into actions I need to get done that week.
Longer-term concrete goals are harder to break down. That’s why I stick to quarterly or monthly goals. It’s much easier to figure out what action steps you need to take.
No Systems in Place
Finally, the third thing holding you back is a lack of systems. If you’re running around doing this and that, and don’t have a set process, it’s going to take you much longer to accomplish anything.
This is why I started setting up systems in both my home and my business. It helps things function better. For example, I have a meal planning and a cleaning system I use each week for my home.
For my business, I have a content strategy system for creating and getting content out there. I also have a client onboarding system for my service side, where I help clients with funnel and content strategy.
When there is a system, process, or a routine it can make your life easier. It helps you focus because you’re not trying to figure it out, you can take action on it right away. When there’s a system in place it also reduces decision fatigue, you have focus and brain power for more important things.
That covers three things that could be holding you back from being more productive. They are scrolling, a lack of effective planning, and lack of systems in your home and business. Let me know what you are going to work on first. If you struggle in any of these areas, I would love to hear from you.
Such great advice here! I know that when I don’t plan out my days, I really don’t get as much done. I like to plan the night before, and then I’m ready for the morning! I really love your idea about breaking down your planning on a long timing, with visualizations through the next few years. Far off planning isn’t what I’m best at! Systems are also something I’m tweaking and figuring out better now too. I love Outlook, but have also found some daily to do planners that help me to check off the repetitive items.
It’s true that when doing something we all need a system to quickly develop and go in the right direction and it also helps me automate, thanks for your sharing.
What is planned will go very quickly and neatly
I have been working without a plan for a long time, because i am so young really what you shared above is the core of stagnation, doing the above things well will help your work always smooth, thank you
