Once upon a time, I wandered around Menards on my lunch break.

Since we bought the house in April, this seems to happen about once a week. But on this particular day, I wandered across a $.19 hallway makeover. That’s right, I found a way to make my hallway look a little classier for only 19 cents.

Let me explain…

And, “After” picture:

Yes, this nineteen cent piece of hardware made my hallway look better.

Since we had taken the original off to paint the hallway before we moved in, we still hadn’t got around to putting them back up. Honestly, we really didn’t want to. A lot of them were kind of yucky, like this one:

Um, gross. However, with a nineteen cent makeover, now it looks like this:

And it will look even better once I get some black touch up paint for the outlet….

All you need to replace them is one of these:

That is, a small, flat head screwdriver. The new screws are included in the package with your new plate.

And did I mention the variety you have to choose from? There was white, silver, cream, black, and brown just to name a few.

So, there you have it. If you have some old, outdated outlet and light switch plates, replacing them can really add a lot to your home for very little money.
